Kimgary Restaurant, Malaysia

SONY DSCOn my most recent trip to Malaysia one of the things that i had planned to do was to make a trip to the fourth biggest shopping mall in the world. The name of this shopping mall was 1utama and it was a little bit away from the centre of KL. When I arrived there I walked around checking out the shops for a couple of hours but after being lost numerous times I had enough. The taxi driver I was talking to on the way to 1utama told me that he doesn’t really like 1utama either, he prefers this shopping centre called the curve. I had a look on my phone to see how far away the curve would be from 1utama, it only looked like it would be a 10 minute walk. I left the air conditioned sanctuary of 1utama and set out in the unrelenting humidity of Malaysia. As I arrived at the curve I noticed that they had so many restaurants! I was looking forward to dinner tonight.

There are a lot of different options to choose from when it comes to dinner at the curve. There were so many restaurants serving up really tasty stuff that I was pretty overwhelmed. Then i remember one of my friends Allen mentioning that a particular restaurant called Kimgary serves pretty tasty Hong Kong food. I entered the restaurant and was greeted by the extremely friendly staff who directed me to a table in the restaurant. Having only had Hong Kong food a few times before I wasn’t sure what the best thing to order from the menu would be, in this case i just said to the staff “order me what your favourite dish is”.

As i looked over the menu I enjoyed a very tasty iced milk tea. The waiter suggested that i take advantage of their set meal which I thought sounded good.

SONY DSCThe first part of my set meal arrived and this was a minestrone soup. At first I thought this was strange until I read that Hong Kong was a British colony for many years so western recipes and ingredients have managed to sneak their way into Hong Kong cuisine. I thought that the minestrone soup was alright, it was slightly watery and didn’t have me craving more but for a free entree as part of a set menu it was alright.

SONY DSCThe next thing to arrive was my main course. This was suggested by the waiter due to having a “very delicious sauce”. So what we have here is a mixture of various seafood that is served on top of a bed of rice, then topped with a cheese bechamel and then topped with cheese and grilled. The seafood that was included in this dish was mussels, fish, scallops, and eel. While order I had some general idea that this would be a pretty cheesy dish but I have to say, this was cheese overload! It just had way too much cheese going on. I only got through about two thirds of it before I was full.

SONY DSCAs the final part of my set meal I was served a steamed soya bean pudding. This was fantastic! The best thing about my whole meal, the texture was light and airy much like a creme caramel but with the unmistakable flavour of soya milk. I loved this.

My meal seemed to be filled with hits and misses, on one hand you have the dessert and the milk tea and on the other hand you have the main course that I ordered. I would probably give Kimgary another shot, I feel that it has the potential to be delicious but I would definitely steer clear of that cheese dish again.
